E&P Gulf of Mexico Team Helps Local Summer School Program

June 24, 2010

Team El Paso members in our E&P Company’s Gulf of Mexico business area pitched in to make life a little easier for children in a summer school program in Leonville, Louisiana.

Sam Leger, a maintenance supervisor for El Paso Exploration & Production, and his team have stepped up to become the Neighbor to Have in Leonville, Louisiana.  The team collected and delivered 48 office partition panels and other cubicle materials to deliver to the Just One Word program, an organization that coordinates summer school for local kids.

The program was in need of materials after the local gym was destroyed in a fire.  The students and program were relocated to a nearby church, but the facility lacked the means of separating children by age or program.  The delivered partitions helped the program, and children, to continue with their summer education.

“Its companies like yours and people like you that keep us encouraged to continue the work we do. On behalf of the children, youth, and families of the Leonville, Louisiana community, thanks so very much,” Bonnie Riley, executive director of Just One Word said.

Team El Paso in the Black Warrior Basin recently stepped up in two ways to be the Neighbor to Have in north-central Alabama. First, the team donated a much-needed building to the Town of Sylvan Springs for a community post office.

Team EP also came to the aid of a local girl who was severely injured in an accident outside a local convenience store. To assist her with her long-term mobility after the devastating accident, Black Warrior Basin employees volunteered their time and money to build a ramp at her home.  Pictures of the effort are below:

Team El Paso in Birmingham, Ala. participated in its third collaboration with Habitat for Humanity to provide a home for Ms. Tameeka Parker and her son.  The two-week build was delayed by rain periodically, but the sharing Team El Paso (STEP) spirit was not dampened.

More than 90 El Paso employees volunteered in the effort in the East Lake area of Birmingham. In a show of support for the effort, El Paso partners Alagasco  came out and prepared lunch for the volunteers.  The three-bedroom, two-bath home is the second Habitat for Humanity house on the block.  The project was completed and dedicated on Friday, May 28, 2010.
